Privacy notice
What this Gift Me site keeps about you, why, and who can see it.
What's kept
- Your email address, and the name you choose to show.
- For guests: the network (IP) address you joined from and which link you used, to stop abuse.
- Sign-in links (only a scrambled copy of their secret part) with the network address they were asked for from, and your signed-in devices (the browser's name), so you can see and end them.
- What you add: lists and items, your profile if you fill it in (sizes, likes, address), your address book, what you say you're getting, and any receipts you upload.
- A record of the emails sent, with your address scrambled, to keep to the sending limits. It's deleted after 30 days.
- The web server's logs record network addresses and the pages asked for, kept as long as the administrator's server keeps them.
Who can see what
- Your lists: the people you share them with, and, if a list is Public, the site's other members.
- What you're getting: never shown to a list's owner before its surprise is revealed. What you're getting and your receipts are stored encrypted.
- Your profile: each part has its own setting (only you, people you share lists with, or everyone here).
- Members appear in the member address book (name and email) for other members, unless they hide themselves on their profile. Guests never appear in it.
- Your address book: only you.
- The administrator runs the server and could, with effort, read what's stored. The site is built so that nobody sees what's been bought for whom by accident.
Cookies
Only the two that signing in needs: a session cookie and a security (CSRF) cookie. No advertising, analytics or tracking, and nothing is passed to other companies.
Gift Me emails you sign-in links, invitations, lists shared with you, reminders (which you can turn off), and changes that affect gifts you're getting. Emails come from this site's own address.
Keeping and deleting
- Your information is kept until you delete your account.
- On your Account page you can download everything about you, or delete your account. Deleting it removes your lists, profile, address book and what you're getting.
- The administrator's backups may keep copies for a while.
